🎯 Why Your Reel Matters More Than Ever

We’re in a digital-first casting world now.

Before they meet you, before they call you, and definitely before they fall in love with your talent…they watch your reel.

If you don’t have one?

You’re invisible.

And if your reel is poorly cut, sounds like a tin can, or looks like a student film from 2002…You’re not just invisible—you’re forgettable.

I don’t say that to scare you. I say that because your reel should serve you—not sabotoge you.

🔍 What Counts as Reel-Worthy Content?

Here are two non-negotiable rules I give every actor I coach and cut reels for:

✅ 1. It needs great audio (and at least decent visuals)

You might have a beautiful performance in a student film… but if the sound is muffled, room-toned, or full of noise—it won’t serve you.

Casting won’t suffer through bad audio to find your good acting.

👀 2. No profile acting. Both eyes, full presence.

If you’re in the shot but your face is turned to the side the entire time?

Cut it.

Casting needs to see your eyes. They need to connect with you, not your earlobe.

🎥 Bonus Rule: If the footage looks cheap, it’s hurting you.

It doesn’t matter how “good” the acting was—if the production value screams “DIY 2010,” it can tank your first impression.

This is why I offer honest no-BS feedback on what to include and what to leave out.
